Maya was a high academy elderly when her stylish friend, Aubrey, mysteriously dropped dead in front of the enigmatic man named Frank whom they ’d been spending time with all summer.


Seven times latterly, Maya lives in Boston with a loving swain and is remonstrating the secret dependence that has allowed her to manage with what happed times agone

, the gaps in her recollections, and the lost time that she ca n’t regard for. But her history comes rushing back when she comes across a recent YouTube videotape in which a youthful woman suddenly keels over and dies in a restaurant while sitting across from none other than Frank. Plunged into the trauma that has defined her life, Maya heads to her Berkshires birthplace to relive that cataclysmal summer — the influence Frank formerly had on her and the compulsive covetousness that nearly destroyed her fellowship with Aubrey.


At her mama ’s house, she excavates fractions of her history and notices hidden dispatches in her departed Guatemalan father’s book that did n’t stand out to her earlier.


The House in the Pines keeps you guessing about whether we can ever completely defy the history and return home.

Ana Reyes is a pen in Los Angeles with an MFA from Louisiana State University. She lives in Los Angeles where she teaches creative writing to older adults at Santa Monica College. Her first novel is "The House in the Pines".
