A River Enchanted
- Rebecca Rose
Jack Tamerlaine has n’t stepped bottom on meter in ten long times, content to study music at the landmass university. But when youthful girls start fading from the islet, Jack is summoned home to help find them. Enchantments run deep on meter gossip is carried by the wind, plaid roquelaures can be as strong as armor, and the lowest cut of a cutter can inseminate bottomless fear. The capricious spirits that rule the islet by fire, water, earth, and wind find cheerfulness in the lives of the humans who call the land home. Adaira, descendant of the east and Jack’s nonage adversary, knows the spirits only answer to a poet’s music, and she hopes Jack can draw them forth by song, soliciting them to return the missing girls.
As Jack and Adaira reluctantly work together, they find they make better abettors than rivals as their cooperation turns into commodity more. But with each passing song, it becomes apparent the trouble with the spirits is far more minatory than they first anticipated, and an aged, darker secret about meter lurks beneath the face, hanging to undo them all.
With indelible characters, a fast- paced plot, and compelling world structure, A River Enchanted is a shifting story of duty, love, and the power of true cooperation, and marks Rebecca Ross’s brilliant entry on the adult fantasy stage.
